My research and policy work sits where Aboriginal knowledges meet medical education and health system reform — curriculum and accreditation, the formation of doctors, and the measurement of Aboriginal wellbeing on community’s terms.
Having completed the competitive Pathways to a PhD (Doing Research for Mob) program in 2026, I am developing my doctoral proposal with a prospective principal advisor at UQ.
The focus is medical education and curriculum development — specifically, professional identity formation, and the place of relational pedagogies in how medicine is taught. Cultural safety is currently added to curricula as content to be covered. My interest is in what happens when it is instead treated as a matter of formation: something a doctor becomes, through relationship, story and accountability, rather than something they complete.
The question that follows is a practical one for every medical school in the country: which teaching practices actually produce graduates who practise culturally safe care with and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people — and how would we know?
Current research
Senior Research Assistant, contributing Aboriginal research methods, measurement and community-engagement practice.
Current project: CanCo — A Prospective First Nations Cancer Cohort, establishing a prospective cohort with First Nations people.
Data governance, measurement framework and ethical oversight for an Aboriginal-led brain-health and healing model — built on community ownership of data and decision-making.
Policy, scholarship & submissions
Co-author of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health in the Medical Curriculum policy.
Contributed to the development of the Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Strategy with the Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council (QAIHC).
Contributions to QKP policy positions and submissions on children and young people.
Authored a cultural systems critique that informed the narrative for Queensland’s Families Strategy.
Contributed to the AMC’s revised accreditation standards for medical schools on Aboriginal health and cultural safety.

Delivered at Hymba Yumba Independent School. Led the ideation and write-up of the successful bid, integrating Aboriginal knowledge systems with STEM learning.
